Turninn / The Tower is Iceland’s highest restaurant, located on the nineteenth floor in an office tower in Kópavogur, and what a view! You can see most of the greater capital area as well as the surrounding mountains and even a glacier!
The Tower is a buffet style restaurant that offers a wide range of cuisines amongst Singapore, India , Italy, France, Malasya and Japan just to name few, ranging from salads, soup, fish, meats to deserts. There is a slim to none chance of a person dining there and not being able to find something to their taste.
At first you might think: “Ohh not a buffet… seen them a million times”, but rest assure this is not your typical buffet, sure it’s all you can eat but with a near fine dine experience. We had a passionate wine waiter that brought us wine with each course better than the one before as a part of their four wine menu tuned to each person.
We started out by trying the sushi which consisted of different types of maki, tempura maki and nigiri. With the sushi we were served silk smooth warm sake named Vento Seco, a great addition to excellent sushi.
You have a lot to choose from when it comes to the starters, where the ones we think were really noteworthy was an interesting crab cake where the cake was made almost solely of nuts, teriyaki mink whale and really good salmon tartar.
For the main course we decided to try out a rib-eye steak treated with licorice salt from Saltverk, beer chicken and salmon, where the price must go to the steak which was grilled on a charcoal grill in front of us while we were choosing our starters and rested until we came back for the entrées.
The price for the buffet is 6.290 ISK / 52 USD for adults, 6 – 11 year olds pay half that price and 5 and younger pay 990 ISK / 8 USD which seems more than fair compared to the quality of the food.
With everything considered the Tower is one of the best buffets we have been to with great service and exceptional view!
